Poi for the Prurient

Presented by: J.Tease

Friday Apr 9, 2010 Location in Waltham: 7:30 – 9:30 PM

Poi spinning - also commonly known as "fire spinning" or "fire twirling" - is a sexy and fun hobby that gets the body moving and can serve as a meditative practice. It can also - for those of us with a kinky bent - be seen as the intersection of dance, florentine flogging, flirtation, and fire play. In "Poi for the Prurient", we'll talk about how these arts are related and how they blend together into a performance art that bridges genres and pulls at primal urges.

This is a hands-on introductory course. We will be using practice poi to learn some basic poi spinning techniques. If you have practice sets, bring them! (We will have a few practice sets available for use as well.) Interspersed with hands-on practice and instruction, we will talk about rhythm, flow, movement, and how you can incorporate these techniques to enhance your flogging! We will also briefly discuss the similarities and differences between fire poi and more traditional torch-based forms of BDSM fire play.

(This is not a fire course, and we will not be covering fire safety beyond a basic cautionary disclaimer.)
